The Michael Mustill Scholarship, funded in partnership with the International Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC), seeks to support those who have not yet secured pupillage but are looking to undertake further study, an internship, or work placement in the field of Internal Dispute Resolution (ADR), with a particular focus on arbitration. Two of the scholars this year were awarded pupillage.
One of this year’s scholars, Yufei Cheng, said: ‘I feel deeply indebted to both the Inn and the IDRC for the scholarship and the opportunities it has provided me with.’
And Isaac Channon, another of this year’s scholars, said: ‘I mentioned the scholarship in each of my pupillage applications. The process of applying for pupillage is a long and arduous one, with few markers along the way to indicate you are on the right track. I am therefore very grateful to Gray’s Inn, the IDRC and most especially the Mustill family for their support. I wholeheartedly recommend the Mustill Scholarship to any aspiring barrister; it has been invaluable to me.’
Lord Mustill of Pateley Bridge was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1955 and was made a Bencher in 1976. He was one of the great figures of international and domestic arbitration, as a practitioner, author, scholar, judge and arbitrator.
